[UFC 110]: Nogueira vs Velasquez - Cook ha fiducia in Velasquez (21/02/2010)
Cain Velazquez is set to face MMA legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia, on Feb. 21 in what could be a fight that illustrates either the passing of the torch to the new generation of heavyweights or a realization that the old guard can still play a significant roll in the burgeoning marquee division.
Velazquez’s trainer at American Kickboxing Academy, Bob Cook, is aware of the dangerous nature of the bout but is confident his charge has what it takes to avoid the pitfalls any fight with Nogueira might entail.
“We think Cain is just too fast and too good, but when you are dealing with a guy like Nogueira, you can never count him out of a fight,” said Cook. “Even if Cain is taking it to him, he is a guy that has proven he can come back at any time.”
Cook is aware that this fight could place AKA’s star heavyweight smack dab in the middle of the UFC title picture, and though he welcomes the opportunity, he isn’t sure when that chance will come. “First things first, we need to make sure we get past Nogueira. As for a title shot, who knows,” said Cook. “We will be ready when that time comes.”
