Robert Emerson will lock horns with Nik Lentz in a preliminary matchup at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31 at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Eleven bouts are now official for the event, which will be headlined by a pivotal lightweight showdown between the world-ranked Kenny Florian and former Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Takanori Gomi.

Emerson has dropped two of his past three fights but defeated “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 runner-up Phillipe Nover by unanimous decision at UFC 109 in February; the loss resulted in Nover’s being cut by the promotions. Finished only once in 18 professional appearances, Emerson, a 28-year-old Marco Ruas protégé, holds notable wins against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 finalist Manny Gamburyan and Dream veteran Keita Nakamura.

Anchored at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy, Lentz fought Thiago Tavares to a draw at UFC Fight Night 10 in January. The 25-year-old El Paso, Texas, native wrestled collegiately at the University of Minnesota and will enter his bout with Emerson unbeaten in his last 10 fights. Lentz’s list of victims includes UFC veteran Drew Fickett, AMA Fight Club standout Rafaello Oliveira and recent Bellator Fighting Championships signee Carey Vanier.

In addition to the Florian-Gomi headliner, UFC Fight Night 21 will feature a heavyweight bout pitting “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson against 6-foot-11 Stefan Struve, a middleweight slugfest pairing Nate Quarry with Jorge Rivera and a lightweight duel between “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 winner Ross Pearson and Dennis Siver.

Brazilian prospect Ronys Torres will take on Jacob Volkmann in a lightweight duel at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31 at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Nine matches are now official for the event, which marks the promotion’s first stop in The Queen City in some 15 years.

Spawned by the revered Nova Uniao camp, Torres has secured 12 of his 14 career wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. His unanimous decision loss to Melvin Guillard at UFC 109 spoiled his promotional debut and snapped the 24-year-old Brazilian’s eight-fight winning streak. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Torres cut his teeth inside the Jungle Fight and Shooto circuits.

Volkmann, a Minnesota Martial Arts Academy product who runs his own chiropractic practice, remains winless in two appearances inside the Octagon. The 29-year-old Fergus Falls, Minn., native has not competed since he succumbed to a modified guillotine choke from Martin Kampmann at UFC 108 last month. More than half (six) of the former Victory Fighting Championship welterweight titleholder’s nine career wins have come by submission. Volkmann was a three-time collegiate All-American wrestler at the University of Minnesota.

[UFN 21]: Florian vs Gomi - Tibau è pronto ad affrontare Uno e sogna un match con B.J. Penn (31/03/2010)

Gleison Tibau will step into the Octagon to face Caol Uno at UFC Fight Night 21 in Charlotte, N.C., on March 31, and the American Top Team lightweight says he is hoping to make it the first step in a run toward the UFC 155-pound title in 2010.

Fresh off a dominant win over a very experienced Josh Neer, Tibau hopes to reestablish himself as a viable contender in the division. The fight will take place under the guidance of the North Carolina commission and will be subject to a rule that states there cannot be more than a 13-pound differential between weigh-in and fight-day weights. Tibau is known for cutting a tremendous amount of weight for his fights, and in this exclusive interview, he tells Sherdog.com that he is already preparing for the 13-pound rule.

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson will collide with Stefan Struve in a featured heavyweight tilt at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31 at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. Seven bouts are now official for the UFC’s return to the Queen City.

Nelson, the 33-year-old former International Fight League champion, knocked out the previously unbeaten Brendan Schaub at “The Ultimate Fighter 10” Finale two months ago in Las Vegas. Finished only once -- by former UFC heavyweight titleholder Andrei Arlovski -- in 18 professional bouts, he has won six of his last eight fights. Nelson, a Las Vegas native known as much for his portly physique as his considerable skills, holds a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Renzo Gracie.

One of the sport’s tallest competitors at 6-foot-11, Struve will carry a three-fight winning streak into the match. The Dutchman, who turns 22 next week, has delivered 14 of his 19 career victories by submission. Only one of Struve’s 22 professional bouts -- his majority decision win over Paul Buentello at UFC 112 in December -- has gone to the judges.

The UFC Fight Night 21 spotlight will also shine down upon the middleweights, as former title contender Nate Quarry meets the heavy-handed Jorge Rivera.

Quarry, 37, has posted back-to-back wins since his submission loss to the world-ranked Demian Maia at UFC 91. He outpointed “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 semi-finalist Tim Credeur by unanimous decision five months ago in a memorable slugfest at UFC Fight Night 19. Victories against Drew McFedries, Jason MacDonald and Shonie Carter highlight his resume.

The 37-year-old Rivera will also ride a two-fight winning streak into the match, but the Massachusetts native has not competed since he stopped Rob Kimmons on third-round strikes at UFC 104 in October. His UFC career revived by his appearance on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 4, Rivera counts wins over David Loiseau, Travis Lutter and Kendall Grove among his 17 career victories.

Meanwhile, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 lightweight winner Ross Pearson will toe the line against the surging Dennis Siver.

Anchored a the same Team Rough House camp that produced welterweight contenders Dan Hardy and Paul Daley, Pearson has delivered nine wins in his last 10 fights. The 25-year-old last appeared at UFC 105, when he stopped the durable Aaron Riley on a second-round cut in November. A tae kwon do black belt and judo brown belt, Pearson has secured eight of his 10 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Siver, exiled from the UFC following a 2008 loss to Melvin Guillard, has returned to the Octagon with renewed vigor. The 31-year-old German will carry a four-fight winning streak into his showdown with Pearson. He stopped the Wolfslair Academy’s Paul Kelly in the second round at UFC 105 and has finished 13 of his 15 wins.

Other bouts on tap for UFC Fight Night 21 include a lightweight tilt pairing American Top Team’s Cole Miller with “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 runner-up Andre Winner and the world-ranked Yushin Okami with Finland-based Brazilian Lucio Linhares. In addition, Japanese veteran Caol Uno, seeking his first victory inside the UFC in more than seven years, will collide with Miller’s ATT teammate, Gleison Tibau.

Kenny Florian e Takanori Gomi si incontreranno nel main eventi da pesi leggeri al UFC Fight Night 21 il 31 marzo al Bojangles Coliseum a Charlotte, N.C. secondo quanto riportato da Spike TV (evento che verrà anche trasmesso live dal Blog di Megathai.

Florian, vincitore della prima stagione di The Ultimate Fighter ha guadagnato una vittoria per sottomissione nel secondo round contro Clay Guida al UFC 107 lo scorso dicembre a Memphis, Tennesee. Il lottatore 33enne ha combattuto e perso due volte per il titolo dei pesi leggeri, l'ultima volta contro l'attuale campione B.J. Penn al UFC 101 lo scorso agosto e da Sean Sherk al UFC 64 nell'ottobre 2006.

Gomi, un recente acquisto della promotion ha goduto di una fruttuosa carriera al Pride in Giappone, ottenendo 10 vittorie consecutive nella defunta promotion tra il 2004 e il 2005. L'ex campione dei pesi leggeri ha un record di 3-2 nei suoi ultimi 5 incontri, e ha ottenuto una vittoria per decisione unanime su Tony Hervey al Vale Tudo Japan 2009 lo scorso ottobre.

Alessio “Legionarivs” Sakara affronterà James “The Sandman” Irvin

Il match è previsto per il 21 marzo e l’evento sarà la 21ma edizione dell’UFC Fight Night, che si terrà a Denver, in Colorado (USA) e trasmesso sul blog di Megathai.

Alessio ha riportato 2 vittorie negli ultimi match sostenuti, impressionando per la sua forma fisica e per aver adottato, finalmente, uno stile più “MMA” rispetto ad un approccio stile boxer che aveva caratterizzato le sue prime uscite nel circuito americano. A farne spese sono stati Joe Vedepo, abbattuto con un pregevole high-kick, e Thales Leites (il match precedente a quello con Sakara aveva combattuto per il titolo dei medi contro Anderson Silva, perdendo ai punti), dove Alessio ha mostrato calma, sicurezza ed un notevole tecnica al suolo.

Lo statunitense Irvin è comunque un osso duro, dal fisico notevole, dotato di una solida castagna che solitamente si concretizza con il gancio destro, un buon double-leg ed una discreta tenacia. Tuttavia una lunga assenza dalle scene causa un infortunio, potrebbe segnare il rendimento di un'atleta proprio al suo decisivo ritorno nell'UFC.

Takanori Gomi approda in UFC, e il suo avversario sarà Kenny Florian

Il due volte contendente per il titolo dei pesi leggeri Kenny Florian si prepara a ad affrontare nel main event dell'UFC Fight Night 21 l'ex campione dei pesi leggeri del Pride Takanori Gomi il 31 marzo 2010 (evento che verrà trasmesso sul Blog di Megathai), l'annuncio è arrivato dallo stesso Kenny Florian su Twitter questo giovedì.

L'arrivo di Gomi in UFC, il quale ha dichiarato di aver optato per quest'ultima in quanto vuole finire la sua carriera combattendo per la federazione più importante al mondo, non è cosa da poco in quanto può creare alto interesse anche nella terra del Sol Levante e negli appassionati di MMA di vecchia data, un po' nostalgici dei grandi nomi che resero grande il Pride.

E' sicuramente un matchup interessante e molto duro per il Giapponese, Kenny Florian al momento è considerato il numero 2 al mondo nella sua categoria ed è in un periodo di gran forma sia fisica che mentale, sembra aver recuperato appieno la brutta sconfitta subita dal campione. Forse, per un esordio, è troppo anche per un veterano come Gomi, che dovrà fare i conti non solo con l'emozione ed il fatto di combattere in terra straniera, ma anche con regole diverse, la gabbia al posto del ring, impostazione dei combattimenti differente, tante variabili che potrebbero incidere sull'andamento dell'incontro.

KenFlo ha vinto 7 dei suoi ultimi 8 incontri, perdendo solo dal re indiscusso della lightweight division B.J Penn. L'ormai famoso atleta 33enne ha combattuto il suo ultimo match in dicembre durante l'evento UFC 107, nel corso del quale ha sottomesso Clay Guida durante il secondo round con una pregevole rear-nake-choke.
KenFlo, cintura nera di brazilian jiu-jitsu e raffinato Muay Thai striker, famose le sue gomitate che spesso e volentieri aprono tagli nei suoi avversari, può vantare vittorie contro l'atleta dell'American Top Team Din Thomas, il semi-finalista del "The Ultimate Fighter" 5° stagione ed il molto quotato Joe Stevenson. Combattente molto spettacolare, lo dimostra il fatto che solo due dei suoi 13 combattimenti in UFC sono finiti per decisione.

Gomi, famosissimo in Giappone e che una volta era considerato "l'uomo da battere" nei pesi leggeri, si presenterà nel suo debutto in UFC con una striscia vincente di 2 incontri. Non si è più visto sul suolo americano dopo il suo controverso incontro con Nick Diaz, dal quale perse chiuso nella sua gogoplata durante il Pride 33 nel febbraio 2007. Il risultato è stato poi cambiato in un no-contest dopo Diaz è risultato positivo per l'uso di marijuana. Gomi, 31 anni, vanta vittorie sull'ex campione dei pesi leggeri in UFC Jens Pulver, il giapponese Hayato "Mach" Sakurai, il veterano attualmente in Strikeforce Mitsuhiro Ishida ed il rinomato Tatsuya Kawajiri tra le sue 31 vittorie in carriera. Non è mai stato mai mandato KO.
